Dozens of detained opposition politicians have walked free from prison in Venezuela, after being pardoned by president Nicolas Maduro. Some had been accused of attempting to overthrow the government. They have been released ahead of elections in December. The government says this is a goodwill gesture, but it is widely seen as an attempt to boost participation in and legitimacy of the vote.
