Student unions have long had a major impact on Palestinian political life, but students now say their role has been diminished over the past 30 years or so. That is since the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority was established after an agreement between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the state of Israel in 1994. On Sunday, the Palestinian Central Council is meeting to discuss policy decisions and fill in top vacancies in the PLO. Students and other Palestinian factions accuse the PA of disenfranchisement and say they are being left out of the political arena.
