Sudan’s Bahri in ruins after Army-RSF battles; residents hope for recovery amid devastation
AlJazeeraEnglish | Sudan’s Bahri in ruins after Army-RSF battles; residents hope for recovery amid devastation ...
Once bustling streets in Bahri, Sudan, now lie in ruins after intense battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for control of the area. The army recently regained control of key locations, including the Shambat military base, offering hope to residents. During RSF control, basic services were cut, hospitals destroyed, and movement heavily restricted, forcing many to flee. Access to essentials like water became a daily struggle, with residents relying on a single well despite the nearby river. While the army’s presence has brought some relief, the damage from months of conflict will take time to repair. Residents now hope for a return to normalcy, including restored services and education for children. The situation underscores the long road to recovery after prolonged violence.
Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan reports from Khartoum.
